So there's lots of space to walk around and look at all the different types of merch. So it seems like they're trying to do more of that which is really nice.

First of all, Nicholson, Forrest, Cut and Hriskov have all been reassigned to their junior teams. Right. So. So they'll be gone for a while or. I'm not sure how that works.

12:16Justin: We haven't done this in ages. We haven't layoffs. Like all this stuff. It's like game recaps, game recaps. Friday night, home opener, season opener, Brantford Bulldogs at the Aud You and I were there.

12:33Justin: That was a 4, 3 overtime win.

12:36Andrew: Yeah. It wasn't your conventional 43 overtime win. It was your poetic ode to the reverse sweep overtime win. Coming back from three nothing starting the third period, backs against the wall. And then I gotta say that the. Just the fitness levels of these guys, it's no Andrew you guys have the new gym because they're making use of it because they just outscated the Bulldogs as that. It was like again, remember we talked about it being like a prize fight last year. As it got into the later rounds of the prize fight, the more well conditioned athletes just took over.

13:13Justin: Yeah.

13:13Andrew: And it was. They've just skated circles around the guys in. In. In Brantford. And the thing was, is it was a nine on nine forward game. So there was a whole line missing from the teams.

13:25Justin: There was. There's no excuses because both teams were missing a full line. A full line? Yeah, yeah. Full line of forwards. Yeah, for sure. The first two periods on the Ranger side, it felt like there was some jitters. It just. You're at home, so there's probably an extra little bit of nervousness.

13:40Andrew: And Branford came Out, like, really strong, like, house on fire type. Like, they came out looking to prove a point and assert dominance in the away rink and silence the crowd. But the great thing was the crowd never. The energy never really died down in

13:55Justin: the Aud You know why? Because our friend Jason Schaubel was playing

14:00Andrew: lights out, dialed in that there was

14:02Justin: a couple points there. There was a rebound that he should have never. He had no right in saving.

14:08Andrew: Yes.

14:09Justin: And it was like, wait, who's in that? Is it the guy from last year or is it Jason? Shalom.

14:13Andrew: He took some notes. He took some notes for sure.

14:15Justin: Definitely.

14:16Andrew: It rubbed off. Yeah. the. Aud then there was another one where it was pass out from behind the net and it was a glove save crossing the net. That was just like, should have went in realistically.

14:26Justin: And then there was another one when he lost his stick and he made, like, an unbelievable pad save.

14:31Andrew: Yes.

14:31Justin: It's like, dude.

14:34Andrew: Yeah.

14:34Justin: Yeah. He kept the Rangers in this game for those first two periods. Oh, yeah.

14:37Andrew: I'm. You know what? He wears number 39. My favorite goalie of all time, as I've talked many times, wore number 39. My favorite NHL goalie of all time. You can just guess. I won't say his name because I've said it before. Young Jay Shobbs was locked in. Yeah, it was. Yeah, he earned that. He earned that. He earned that win. What I will say is there was too many stars in that game. If there was an honorary fourth star in that game, it was definitely Jason Schaubel Yes.

15:07Justin: Oh, for sure. Yeah. The actual stars that they gave out, like.

15:09Andrew: Yeah, I understand.

15:10Justin: You can't not give Tanner Lam the first star because he scored the overtime winner. You can't not give Arquette, who got three points, and then Bramford also had a good game.

15:19Andrew: Yeah. And that. The goal that. That Joshua Avery scored was like, beat Shabo clean, and it was absolute rocket snipe. Yeah. But let's talk a little bit about that third period.

15:30Justin: Yeah.

15:31Andrew: They came out, like I said, they started skating circles around him. And Cameron Arquette, four minutes, 20 seconds into that period, gets them on the board. And then that's when you could have. Feel that this team again, who. This team never lost faith. This team never stopped playing their game through the second, even the Aud was a little touch and go in the second. The. The third period, he gets that goal. He gets on the board with the assist to Haeden Ellis, who's been playing really well.

15:55Justin: Yeah, for sure.

15:57Andrew: And you could feel it. All right, here we go. Here we Go vintage Rangers. Let's go. Then he goes and snipes one like crazy angle. The second goal that Arquette had to make it three to two. Yeah, he's like far right wing and just snipes it under the bar. There was only enough space to put the puck there and he it. And so now it's three to two. And now it's all downhill for Branford. Like, you could feel that, like, the momentum. The momentum. And that was like eight minutes into the period. So there's still a lot of time. And then 15 minutes into the period, so, like less than five minutes left. Four and a half minutes left. Tanner Lam on the power play with might be the goal of the year.

16:40Andrew: in that moment between the legs. And not only that, received a pass and he was facing the wrong way and just spun around and went between the legs and went roof daddy.

16:51Justin: Yeah.

16:51Andrew: And it was just shocking. Like, it was one of those things that we saw at the far end of the rink. And I knew what I had seen, but I almost couldn't process that that is what happened. I was like, I had, like, disbelief. Was that what happened? Did he just go between the legs to the Aud up third period? Oh, yeah, sure did.

17:10Justin: Tanner Lam And there were other opportunities. Arquette almost got another goal in that third period.

17:15Andrew: Yeah.

17:15Justin: And then Ellis almost got the fourth goal.

17:18Andrew: And I gotta Sam O'Reilly gotta mention Stark set Tanner Lam up. And Arquette, he played really well.

17:25Justin: Yeah, for sure. Yeah.

17:26Andrew: Stark played extremely well and had that primary assist on that.

17:29Justin: And that all paid dividends in the next game.

17:31Andrew: I knew they were gonna win once they. But you know what I mean, like, sometimes when teams fight back, you feel like the vibe after is, oh, it's almost like this adrenaline dump. Like we tied it up.

17:41Justin: Yeah.

17:42Andrew: But it was like, okay, now we're gonna get to knockout blow, which they did only 40 seconds into.41 seconds into OT. Tanner Lam does it again on a crazy. Just. I said when we saw it, like, man, that defenseman had a family. He blew past them, like, to the point that, like. Yeah, you can see that. These guys are in such good condition already. Like, they're like mid season form. He gets past the Aud as he's falling, it was. Yeah, it's picture perfect.

18:09Justin: Yeah. Unbelievable shot. Yeah. Yeah, it was crazy. the Aud went nuts when he scored that. Thanks to Logan for sending us the right side. Yeah. Clip of Lamb's going this goal. Like, the Aud just lost it. We lost it, too. We were there so we were like, yeah, we were mine.

18:25Andrew: It was. That was like a fever dream.

18:26Justin: Yeah.

18:27Andrew: Like you and I are looking at each other. I can't believe this just happened again. And I said to you, are they going to be like, are these guys going to be cardiac kids all over again?

18:33Justin: Y.

18:34Andrew: Maybe this all over again where it's just never say die. It's. We'll just drag you in the deep water and we'll beat you the way that we're going to beat you. Is this just. This is just the identity of this franchise.

18:45Justin: This might be it.

18:46Andrew: This organization is just this way.

18:48Justin: It's exciting, to say the least on the side of things. Like, the first two periods were pretty rough, shots wise, but the Rangers really pulled it around in the third period. Like they. They really outshot them in the third period.

19:00Andrew: It was pure domination. And after a certain point in that second period, it started. You could tell the momentum had swung. You just didn't know if that 3 nothing deficit was going to be too many goals.

19:11Justin: But they were good. They weren't. They were really disciplined. Like they only were. They took one bench penalty. They took it. Too many men. And that happens when there's jitters and stuff like that happening and. And we don't know the lines.

19:21Andrew: Like they, they. They drew five penalties.

19:24Justin: Yeah. For sure.

19:25Andrew: Right.

19:25Justin: So. Yep. And that just means they're getting their feet moving and all that sort of business. So. Yeah, it was a great. It was a great night. I think. I think the. The coaching staff and everyone should be really happy with the effort and the comeback. Just the fact that they don't give up, that's just.

19:39Andrew: Absolutely.

19:40Justin: Yeah, we learned this last year. A lot of this team is. Was around the team last year. A lot of the guys were around this team last year and they know it.

19:46Andrew: These guys were the young guys, the youngest amongst them.

19:49Justin: Really.

19:50Andrew: It's. It says a lot that these guys have that same DNA.

19:55Justin: Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Then on Saturday we went to Erie and Andrew and I did not go to Erie. We stayed home. And it was. So when it was away game, it was. We won three to one. Andrew watching on Flow tv. Yeah, I was listening to Mike on the radio.

20:11Andrew: Yeah, there was some weird. There was some weird issues with the broadcast out of Erie. However, what I saw was. It was hard to tell because the third period was dominated by Erie, but they were. It was a lot of nothing shots.

20:27Justin: Yeah. A lot of.

20:28Andrew: Don't get me wrong, like, Shovel had to stand tall and do his job, but it wasn't necessarily high danger shot, like they took volume shots is what I'm trying to Sam O'Reilly And Kitchener just boxed the Aud and they had the two nothing lead and they said, you know what, we're just, we're not going to let anything in close and we're just going to kind of kill time and that kind of thing. And I think that was like, that was the game plan is don't push, don't get, don't get tired and make a mistake and that. That sort of thing. Basically there was nothing in the first period. Then the second period there was broadcast issues. But I did see, I. I missed the first goal because of broadcast issues. But I've seen it since I heard it when it happened because I got Mike on the speaker and I've got the TV muted and I've got it all set up and Haeden Ellis scored a nifty power play. Nifty. There's that word again.

21:15Andrew: We're nifty. Haeden Ellis scored a nifty power play goal, which was great. Nice little release. He's got a great shot. I think he's got a lot more confidence in his shot this year already. He scored a lot in preseason and here he is again on the score sheet in this game. Yeah.

21:28Justin: And when we saw some flashes of him in the first game too, like.

21:31Andrew: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, for sure.

21:33Justin: I think he's going to be a great sort of. I know he's not new, but I think he's going to find his game really quickly this year. That's what it feels like.

21:40Andrew: And then our boy, Tony Stark. Iron Man.

21:43Justin: Iron man himself. Yeah.

21:45Andrew: What can I say about this guy? I think that this guy, he played in the playoffs a bit last year, didn't look out of place. I think that this guy is. There's no way he's on the team. He's. He has made the team. He is.

21:58Justin: You don't get three points on the second game and.

21:59Andrew: Yeah, and having a point in the first game, like, he's like, this is. He proved he belongs. This one was shorthanded. This was a crazy goal. A defenseman blows a tire and the puck somehow ends up on a fan shot back to where it needs to be. And Cameron Arquette recovers it just there and passes it to Stark, who just went to where he needed to go. Again, it's really hard to describe this goal, but it's. It was an unbelievable goal. Just because everything worked out, but because these guys are in position. Yeah, that's the thing right. Is if you're not in position and you're not following the play and you're not going like, where do I go? Where do I go? To the soft spot, side of the net. Then that. That doesn't happen.

22:42Andrew: If you're puck watching, that happens a lot with teams is they puck watch in the offensive zone because there's just weird stuff happening and you're like, oh, I'm out of. I'm out of. If I had been over there, that's an easy goal. Which it was.

22:54Andrew: So I'm impressed. That was shorthanded. It was nice to see a shorthanded goal in our favor. I don't know if you remember last season.

23:19Justin: No. No. But it seemed like the Rangers were more in control of this game. They weren't putting up crazy shots. Like, the shots look really imbalanced if you just look at the shot totals. Yeah, it was like 30 to 18 or something like that. It felt.

23:32Andrew: You know what, it was a. It's a long road trip at like late at night to get there. Just. I think they went right after. I think they went right after the game is what I was understanding. So they could just get up there. I just think that's a hard turnaround to start the season that way.

23:50Andrew: I think they're much better than Erie. I just think that this is. This was nine forwards. It wasn't their best hockey, but it was good enough to get it done. And I'm going to be honest, Jason Schaubel just played unbelievable all weekend.

25:10Andrew: That I'm not as surprised because I just think he was taking such incredible strides at the end of last season and then I knew that he was going to be like a guy on this Tommy Kut I'm going to give him. I'm going to give him the third star just because the other two are just a little bit. They just. What they contributed was almost a little bit more important. Even though Arky got it started in game. In the first game.

25:34Andrew: Who's your third star?

25:35Justin: No, that's all great. My third star is Stark.

25:39Justin: Perfect. Yeah. Three. Three points, two goals and assists against Yuri. And like we said, he. His presence was known in that first game. He didn't get any points on the board but. But like he was a part of that comeback. He looked great all weekend and then. Yeah.

25:54Justin: He just shone totally at Erie game.

25:56Andrew: Love that Stark gots a shot, gets a shout out.

26:03Andrew: Tanner Lam scored literally probably the best goal that you're gonna see all year. Just because it's not gonna get remembered as the best goal that you saw all year because it happened too early.

26:12Justin: Yeah. It happened right at the beginning, but it's.

26:14Andrew: We're gonna be able to put it up against any goal that scored this year in the league.

26:17Justin: It's remarkable.

26:18Andrew: And the crazy thing is the game winner that he scored was probably a all time Tanner Lam goal.

26:26Andrew: And it wasn't even the best goal he scored in the game.

26:28Justin: In the game.

26:29Andrew: So all time highlight reel goal for him.

26:32Justin: His highlight reel is going to be this game.

26:34Andrew: Two of those. Yeah. Those two goals have to go on his highlight reel.

26:37Justin: Yeah, for sure.

26:38Andrew: If Tanner Lam dad is watching her mom and makes the tape, which I know I would if I had a son doing this. Those two are going on there.

26:48Justin: It's shabble. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Tender of the week.938 save percentage. They put on all the OHL stuff. They put 2.00 goals against average, but he played 40 seconds in an overtime, so his goals against average is actually 1.99 below 2. That's his actual stat. So just everybody out there. I'm. I'm paying attention. Shabble. Less than two goals against average.

27:12Andrew: Absolutely.

27:13Justin: He looked unreal. I know he let in three goals in that first game, but they were all legit goals. Like. No, no. And he saved about five more. Yeah. In that he could have been getting blown out. Yeah. It could have been eight.

27:24Andrew: That's all. That's like the. Realistically if it could have been five or six to one.

27:28Justin: Yeah.

27:28Andrew: In that game, like going into.

27:30Justin: And there would have been no need for a comeback because they would have never been able to come back. So he kept them in that game. And then obviously against Erie, he was like a brick house.

27:38Andrew: Oh, for sure.

27:38Justin: Brick wall. Brick wall. Brick wall.

27:40Andrew: Brick wall. A house made of brick walls.

27:43Justin: Cool.

27:43Andrew: Yeah.

27:44Justin: Who's your first star?

27:45Andrew: Well, you won't get any pushback from me because Jason Schaubel is my first star and maybe his stats are impressive, but you could make an argument for the three players that we've talked about so far besides shovel.

27:59Andrew: However, Jason Schaubel is coming in here after the groat.

28:06Andrew: Jackson Parsons.

28:07Justin: Yeah.

28:07Andrew: All right. There's a whole vibe all summer. We're hearing the Rangers are going to be really good. They're going to score a lot of goals. But here's the thing.

28:16Andrew: Goaltending.

28:17Justin: No.

28:18Andrew: And not. Not. Not talking bad about him.

28:20Justin: No. Because he's young, but.

28:22Andrew: Exactly. But saying. But he's young. You can't really. Can't really carry a crease.

28:27Andrew: He can't carry the mail this year because we need to bring in somebody. And they did.

28:32Andrew: But I think that this net is going to be much more 50, 50 than anybody would have expected. I think. I think that realistically, Christian Kirsch didn't come here to be a backup.

28:47Andrew: As a. As an. Not an overager, but as a 19 year old. Bottom line is he's going to get his starts. He's in San Jose training camp or he was. And he's very talented.

29:00Justin: Yep.

29:01Andrew: But Jason Schaubel made a statement saying, listen, I'm here and I'm getting more reps this year.

29:06Justin: Yep. Bottom line. Yeah.

29:07Andrew: He.

29:08Justin: Jason Jobble also doesn't want to back up, so there's going to be totally for the Crease. I love that. I think that's the best. That's the best possible scenario for us

29:15Andrew: is pushing each other.

29:16Justin: Yeah. Yeah. Especially because this could be a multi year back and forth.

29:22Justin: That's where we're at right now. Like this isn't. Like one of them isn't going away next year.

30:06Andrew: I want to do a couple of special shout outs to Alex Forrest and Evan Nicholson.

30:12Justin: Yeah.

30:13Andrew: I thought that they both played really well. I thought Alex Forrest got himself into some trouble spots just because he's a young player and it's hard with Branford. They were checking hard back in the net and he just powered through it and he didn't let it get to him and he didn't make a huge mistake and the puck didn't end up in the net. So I just want to say it's really hard. I think it's much harder as a defenseman to come in and play right away.

30:37Justin: Yeah.

30:37Andrew: But both those guys played really well and.

30:41Justin: And Forest set up that almost go goal in the third period. That almost put the Rangers up without going to overtime. Yeah, he set that one up for Ellis.

30:49Andrew: Yeah.

30:50Justin: So really great. Like just awareness of what's going on for. Great. Like I love seeing him already.

30:56Andrew: Definitely. And another shout out to our boy Western Cameron.

31:00Andrew: In the Erie game, stood up for his teammate Andrew MacNiel Got. Took a bad shot. Hopefully he's okay.

31:07Andrew: Weston Cameron said not. This isn't gonna fly. He's that kind of character guy. He's that kind of guy that you want on your team. And it's. It's. It feels a bit like preseason still. It's not preseason. So these. That fight counts against his number of fights. Right. So it's early to be scrapping but you see that kind of a hit, you have to do something about it. And. And he had a good tilt and he's a tough kid.

31:39Justin: I really like this easing into the season. Last year, it was so many games right at the beginning, and I'm like, okay.

32:04Justin: I don't mean how much do we have to talk about Erie. We just saw them true. They hopefully all.

32:10Andrew: They couldn't beat us without all these guys who will be back for this game. Realistically, I'm taking the Rangers every time because I'm a biased fan. But. But I just think at this point now, we can't get complacent just because you went into Eerie. You were tired on a back to back, and you beat them once.

32:26Justin: They also played the night before. So for sure, this is the thing. It's like they're going to come into Kitchener. They're going to be fresh. They're going to be. And then only they're all unhappy.

32:35Andrew: Oh, they are. Because the Aud the end of the game, they brought that little brother energy all over again, which I wasn't going to. I wasn't going to Sam O'Reilly word

32:41Justin: about it, but bring it on themselves.

32:43Andrew: And the Aud the end of the game with, like, seconds left on the clock, they wanted to cause trouble. And you're like, you had all game. Yeah. You're gonna lose. It was after the empty netter was scored, which was a beautiful effort by Stark, by the way. The empty netter was all effort.

32:57Justin: Yeah.

32:57Andrew: And all. Again, conditioning. These guys are just in such good shape.

33:01Justin: New gym. I tried working out there and they kicked me.

33:04Andrew: I was gonna Sam O'Reilly pulled every muscle in my right leg. Yeah. Every left leg.

33:10Justin: I don't know what it was. Both legs.

33:14Justin: Andrew wheeled in here on this chair that he's sitting on. That's true. That's true. And then on Saturday, we go to Owen Sound. We do Owen Sound looking like a little bit better of a team.

33:27Andrew: That's what the Soo They moved up

33:28Justin: the power rankings this week. They were not on the Aud now they are so perfect.

33:32Andrew: Here's the thing. Owen Sound played above their weight last year. They weren't. They were what? They were a fringe Tommy Kut they gave the Rangers a little bit of trouble. Yep. So I think Owen Sound has improved and they'll probably have more guys back by then.

33:48Justin: Yep.

33:49Andrew: And it'll be a. It'll be a hard fought, I think, battle. The way it is, it was every time they played.

33:55Justin: Yeah. Yeah.

33:56Andrew: We're in Vision Rivals.

33:58Justin: We're in that super weird time where it's like, because we're missing guys, it's really hard to preview these games. You look at a roster, I'm like, I don't know if this is going to be the Sam O'Reilly exactly.
