1:44Andrew: Cameron Reid the 60th captain in Kitchener Rangers history.

1:49Justin: I have to say that was very unexpected last Friday.

1:52Andrew: Very unexpected.

1:53Justin: I can safely Sam O'Reilly had no idea.

1:55Andrew: I feel like it was a bit rushed too.

1:57Justin: Yeah, it just. I heard that he was on a plane at 1pm when they decided or told him or I think that there

2:05Andrew: was a leak and there. And therefore there was a media team rushing and by team, maybe two individuals.

2:14Justin: Yeah, poor guys.

2:16Andrew: Yeah, poor guys. Trying to rush to get the information out.

2:20Justin: Yeah.

2:20Andrew: But very exciting.

2:21Justin: Yeah.

2:22Andrew: AudPod listeners knew mostly new. I think it was like it was literally. I didn't post every response to our Instagram story which if you aren't following us, you should be following us because we ask stuff like predict who the next captain is.

2:36Justin: Yeah.

2:37Andrew: And I'd say 85% of the answers were Cameron Reid which seemed to make sense.

2:41Justin: These are also our listeners and we've talked about the fact that fact. I think last season we brought up at least three times that we thought Cameron Reid would probably be the next captain. Yeah. Of course we didn't think it would happen this year, but he's earned it in every way. He's his play on the ice, it's. His demeanor off the ice. Like he's a leader in that room. We've seen it this weekend. We saw him step up in important moments.

3:02Andrew: Feel like best player on the team, stands up for his teammates. Yeah, it's, it's. And I'm saying best player on the team because he's recognized. He's the first round draft pick. He stands up for his teammates. Like I said, he's an amazing skater. He seems like he's a great interview. Everything is coming together. I think that writing was on the wall.

3:22Justin: Yeah. He also seems like a really nice human being. As we learned from Sean Favaro's Ever Getting Longer documentary. The four hour director's cut. I guess coming.

3:35Andrew: Sean is going to just start releasing documentaries and I'm here for it.

3:40Justin: He is the next Ken Burns is what we've learned.

4:16Justin: Nothing has really been said about Ando. That's. There's no media anything. Nobody's talking about Ando. We presume this means that he's sticking in at least Belleville or in Ottawa. We're not sure.

4:28Andrew: He was assigned to Belleville.

4:30Justin: So he's been assigned to Belleville. So at least we know that for sure.

4:33Andrew: So we know whereabouts he should be. Yeah, we just don't know if he's coming back.

4:40Justin: Like a 150 kilometer radius.

4:42Andrew: This sort of insinuates that he's not coming back, but it doesn't mean for sure he's not coming back because that's up to the Aud Senators.

4:53Justin: And is the AHL the same? If he plays nine games there, does he sign his contract or is that. How does that work compared to the NHL?

4:59Andrew: Okay, I'm going to Sam O'Reilly going to go out on a limb because I don't know for sure, but I think there is a limited number of games he can actually participate in before he is no longer eligible to Play junior hockey. Which makes it's professional hockey.

5:12Justin: Yeah.

5:13Andrew: So that would make sense to me. I don't know if it's 10 games. I don't know if it's like. I don't know what the threshold is. So is it a bigger cup of

5:21Justin: coffee in the ahl? Yes. I don't know. Espresso cup in the NHL?

5:25Andrew: Exactly. I don't know. But I do believe that once you're officially like officially official professional, there's no coming back. So I would think it's probably the Sam O'Reilly don't know why it wouldn't be the same. And it's funny because this is where he falls into that 20 year old the age rule. Like he could be the 20 year old they carry all year.

5:44Andrew: In the A. Which was a brand new rule.

5:46Justin: And we're. We're pretty. We're talking about this a little down on. Because of course we want Ando back on our team.

8:00Justin: You did some pretty intense research for the interview. I thought maybe you had engraved that in your.

8:05Andrew: It's true. He was born. Yeah. So he's already 20.

8:09Justin: Yeah.

8:10Andrew: Yeah.

8:10Justin: Okay. So. So he can safely be on the Belvo Bulls.

8:14Andrew: He can stay forever. He does not have to come back.

8:17Justin: He's a Bull for life.

8:26Andrew: Yeah. Lifetime contract. No. So he's 20 years old. He can stay. The new rule would be 19, which would be even crazier. I do not like that rule now that I know that it's going a year earlier. I get it though. I get it. I get where I get it first. Like, I get it. But I don't think that there's enough players for it to be a rule. It's like I could understand like an exceptional player status. Like the OHL has that. And that's what I'm saying is like the OHL, you're 15 and like unbelievable.

8:59Justin: and you can play. I actually think Ando is like the perfect like prototype of this 20 year old. Yeah. If he was like 19 and they wanted to bring him in because he is a guy who plays that physical game and just needs that experience playing against like men.

9:15Justin: Okay, I get that. Like, I agree.

9:16Andrew: I can understand why. Let's say he's not coming back.

10:05Andrew: the Aud We were in the press box. So we're in the press box first time. We're really excited. Obviously, we do feel like imposters. Imposter syndrome. But the Rangers have made it very clear we are not to feel that way, and we are to sit in the press box and have a great time.

10:21Justin: However, we got kicked out.

10:22Andrew: Oh, we are.

10:23Justin: We didn't get kicked out. We didn't get kicked out. But we are fans. Yes.

10:28Andrew: So when the Rangers score the first goal in the Erie game, Justin and I were like, yes. We had full fan reactions. Like, it was like. I knew that I wasn't supposed to do that, but instinctively, when I saw the puck go in and everybody reacts, I just, like, yelled a bit.

10:51Justin: It was also like, I mean, we'll get into this a little bit, but the Rangers are down one nothing. But they were pressing really hard.

10:56Andrew: It's a build up.

10:57Justin: And there was a build up to that moment, and we needed that. And it was a good goal.

11:02Andrew: It was a perfect story for us to be reacting as fans.

11:07Justin: Yeah.

11:07Andrew: And we're in the press box with team staff from the Erie Otters.

11:12Justin: The Erie Otters.

11:17Andrew: Not our best, finest, most professional moment,

11:19Justin: but here we are. We got better. We only cheered on the next goal.

11:23Andrew: We held it together, and the Aud was just a flinch from there on out. I was sitting next to a journalist, and he literally. I looked at him and I said, did you feel that last one? And he was just like, no. It was pretty good.

11:34Justin: It's just a little. Just a jolt.

11:36Andrew: Just a jolt.

11:37Justin: It's good. It's nice that we have some other people who can help keep us in check 100%.

11:42Andrew: I feel like we have a handler.

11:45Clip: Yeah.

11:45Justin: You guys are allowed to be here. Yeah. With supervision.

12:05Justin: He looks like a big guy. He just. He plays like a huge. I know he's like a. He is a big guy, but it's like he plays like a big goalie, Jacob Markstrom or Blanket Shusturkin. Like he's got that big presence in the net.

12:18Andrew: Sure. He's six' four, 200 pounds.

12:21Justin: He's a big guy.

12:22Andrew: He's obviously a 19 year old player. So it's not necessarily one and done with him. Yeah, obviously he could fall victim or we could fall victim to the 20 year old AHL. Yeah. Like he could just go.

12:34Justin: He could go. But we all know that goaltenders take longer to develop anyways.

12:37Andrew: So. Yeah, it's harder to get creased time if. When you're a goalie get ice time.

12:42Justin: So think about the fact that like Carter George, we'll talk about him in the next game. But like Carter George probably could be playing in the ahl. But sure, it's probably better for him to be in the OHL and just destroy.

12:52Andrew: Yeah. And if he's going to get more ice time.

12:54Justin: Yeah, you're going to play, I don't know, 45 games.

12:57Andrew: I don't know what the AHL situation is for him in la. Yeah.

13:01Justin: Yeah.

13:02Andrew: So I could just see them being like, you know what? We have too many goalies down on the farm. It's better to do that would be

13:07Justin: hard to imagine with their current goalie roster. Yeah, I don't.

13:11Andrew: You know what? If you said, I'll give you a million dollars to tell you who the two goalies are in la, I couldn't do it.

13:17Justin: Isn't Talbot there?

13:19Andrew: Is he just Talbot there.

13:41Andrew: Very slow starts. Like watching felt like almost like a carbon copy of that Branford game where it was just kind of. Are they ready to play hockey right now or are they gonna. Yeah, and that's the thing is we're not gonna say bad stuff about this Tommy Kut like the bottom line is it's. We've now watched enough games to be like, all right, so the first period starts. Have to get better.

14:03Justin: Yeah. That's just like a. Yeah, we can't get worse.

14:05Andrew: So it's like they will get better.

14:07Justin: Yeah.

14:08Andrew: I think that's something that they'll nip

14:09Justin: in the Aud I hope so. Yeah. Yeah. Erie got eight shots, including a goal before the Rangers got Their first shot on that.

14:17Clip: Yeah.

14:17Justin: And it was just like, okay.

14:18Andrew: Strange because Erie was the team they already beat in Erie like five days before.

14:24Justin: Yeah. Yeah. They knew. They knew what they were getting into. Erie didn't even look like they came on that strong. They just were stronger than the Rangers.

14:33Andrew: Yeah, absolutely. It wasn't like. It wasn't as dominant as like the Branford start, where it was like, oh,

14:38Justin: yeah, this could be like a 5

14:40Andrew: nothing going into the period. Scary kind of start. But it just seemed like just a bit sluggish.

14:45Justin: Yeah, for sure. You got a goal. It was not a pretty goal by any sense of the imagination.

14:51Andrew: No.

14:51Justin: It was essentially like the puck ended up in the crease and there was a hefty shoving match happening that basically pushed the eerie player into the puck into the net. It's not like a kicking thing or whatever. It's just like one of those things where it's. That sucks.

15:07Andrew: Wasn't great.

15:08Justin: Nobody's a great goal.

15:10Andrew: But you know what? They all count the same.

15:12Justin: They do. You got two penalties after that in the first period which allowed the Rangers to start getting their offensive foot.

15:19Andrew: Absolutely.

15:19Justin: Just unable to produce like it wasn't. It wasn't nothing at that point. They did started to kick it in about the 10 minute.

15:25Andrew: Yeah. It started to shift back to being kitchen.

15:28Justin: Penalty didn't look beautiful. The power play didn't look beautiful, but

15:31Andrew: it was okay come second period.

15:33Justin: Yeah.

15:33Andrew: The power play starts clicking for sure.

15:35Justin: Yeah. Like we started with some great shots immediately in the second period and then the Otters got another penalty and that's when we got a nice tidy goal by Haeden Ellis.

15:44Andrew: Yeah. Who continues his scoring prowess from the preseason.

15:47Justin: Yeah. And I think that's. I think they said on the broadcast this was the second power play goal in a row.

15:53Andrew: Yeah.

15:53Justin: Which I'm like that we. How many times did we talk about the power play last season? Just needing. I know somebody to put the puck in the net.

16:01Andrew: Yeah. Especially early on.

16:02Justin: And if that's Haeden Ellis, that's great.

16:04Andrew: Cameron Arquette was an assist on that goal as well as Jakub Chromiak But Arky is just continues to blossom as a scoring leader on the team.

16:14Justin: Yeah.

16:15Andrew: Which I think is going to be huge for this Rangers team is if they have that kind of scoring depth. It's going to be huge.

16:22Justin: Yeah.

16:22Andrew: For them come playoff time.

16:24Justin: Oh, yeah. Yeah.

16:24Andrew: Romano gets his first another power play goal set up by the captain himself, Cameron Reid Mr. Cameron Reid Our boy,

16:33Justin: Christian Humphreys Cameron Reid looks so good in this game. Like obviously he had flown from Nashville earlier in the day. Yeah. He arrived in Kitchener, he was named

16:44Andrew: captain and then he went out and had a two assist game and then

16:48Justin: just looked like a absolute monster on the ice.

16:50Clip: Best.

16:50Andrew: Best player on the ice, in my opinion.

16:52Justin: Yeah, agreed. It just. And it looked like he was playing against the wrong league.

16:56Andrew: Yeah, for sure. And it's. I think that's probably what happens when you spend that much time playing with the big boys.

17:01Justin: Yeah, I agree. Yeah. But that goal was beautiful.

17:04Andrew: Yeah. There was a great way to start the third. It was 30 seconds later. Yeah. They give up the lead, which I got quite nervous about.

17:13Justin: Yeah.

17:14Andrew: You know, it's. Again, it wasn't like a great goal, but this Tyler Challenger on Erie, he's good player in a draft year, I believe, and he's a good player.

17:24Justin: And we noted him last year already. He's a. He's been a guy for a while.

17:28Andrew: Yeah. And yeah, it's two to two. Is this like somehow like an eerie revenge game?

17:33Justin: No, it was a little bit too bad because not that long before Erie tied it up, Kirsch had the save of the weekend. That's true. Off on the penalty kill.

17:44Andrew: That's true.

17:45Justin: Unbelievable dive across the net. Just huge. Man putting his body in front of that bug.

17:51Andrew: Yeah.

17:52Justin: Just. Yeah.

17:54Andrew: Moments before.

17:54Justin: Yeah.

17:55Andrew: Unfortunately it still ends up in the back of the net and. Yeah, that's the way it goes sometimes.

18:01Andrew: However, I think again the conditioning and the fitness of the Rangers just took over through this period. A little over halfway, Jack Pridham scores his first one of the season, which we all. I would have bet the house that he was going to score a goal in this game.

18:17Justin: Yeah. Also first game back.

18:19Andrew: First game back.

18:20Justin: Yeah.

18:21Clip: This was his.

18:21Andrew: This was Reed's second assist. This was Christian's second assist. And this was the power play goal

18:26Justin: and the game winning goal and the game winning goal. And it was. This was the one. This was the one where he got the pass. He passed it. Yeah, to Reed and then Reed passed it back to him and he just

18:36Andrew: released it and then had the hair slicked back. Selly. Yeah.

18:40Justin: That's the Pridham special.

18:42Andrew: Yep. Yep.

18:44Justin: Lam got the next. We shouldn't go further without saying early didn't look great.

18:49Andrew: Totally.

18:50Justin: He didn't really have a team in front of him.

18:51Andrew: No. Early is a good goalie.

18:53Justin: He's a really good goalie. Like he. He kept the. The only reason that it was one nothing going into the second was because of early in the Rangers had some good in the first. The fact that Erie was able to the Aud up in the second period again. Y was early in because he. He made some pretty massive saves.

19:11Andrew: Yes.

19:12Justin: And the Aud just heard. The team just collapsed in front of him and.

19:15Andrew: Yeah.

19:15Justin: And Lamb got a great. Like the fourth goal was like. It was nice. He was positionally right. There's just nobody helping him.

19:22Andrew: No. And that Matt Stark, Haeden Ellis, Tanner Lam line was just like running their show. Yeah. And by that point, there's only three and a half minutes left in the game.

19:31Justin: Yeah.

19:31Andrew: They were spent. Erlodin was. It was already. They're already down three to two. That's the nail in the coffin.

19:37Justin: Yeah.

19:37Andrew: And then of course, Tanner Lam adds a empty netter as well. No, like it was.

19:42Justin: Yeah, that's what it was.

19:44Andrew: Because I. Yeah, it was like. I was like. I don't really remember it being an empty netter. Oh, no, because it was just like.

19:49Justin: It was like a. It would have also beat the Gold.

19:53Andrew: And Christian Humphreys gets his third assist of the night on that one.

19:57Clip: Yeah.

19:58Justin: Welcome back.

19:58Andrew: And it's nice that Andrew MacNiel picks a point on that one too.

20:02Andrew: Being one of those hard nosed defensemen, sometimes those points are hard to come by. So it was good for him to get on the score sheet. I think overall this is what we expected. Yeah. So it was a great game for them to come back and. Or not come back.

20:15Justin: But they did. They did.

20:17Andrew: They came back from the first.

20:18Justin: But it was also welcoming back all these players.

20:20Andrew: But for everybody to come back is what I meant exactly. Yeah. For them to come back and have a second home opener. This is what we expected.

20:27Justin: Yeah. Then the next day the team went to Owen Sound and punched in the mouth, got smacked around.

20:35Andrew: I do not know how else to describe this, but in the first period the Owen Sound Attack looked like they were playing playoff hockey. And the Rangers thought they were going to go in there and I think do what the Rangers do, which is perform at a high level and very skilled and make those passes and those breakouts and stuff. And a few of them found themselves on their back. I cannot say it any politer than that, but the Owen Sound Attack. We're ready.

20:59Justin: And Evan Headrick also did literally get punched in the mouth.

21:03Andrew: Yes. So, yeah, he took a. He took quite the crossing in there. There was a. There was. It was great to see Weston Cameron again standing up.

21:10Justin: Standing up for his guys.

21:11Andrew: He is clearly a leader in that sense.

21:15Justin: Yeah.

21:15Andrew: That nobody's going to Push these guys around. Weston Cameron going to stand up for him. And there's. There's guys on the team who can scrap. That's these.

21:21Justin: Tom McNeil basically skate by moments later. Like, if Wes and Cameron hadn't dropped the gloves.

21:27Justin: McNeil would have been.

22:37Andrew: So when he has that, you're not gonna get much Tommy Kut there. And I want to see him play.

22:41Justin: So did he get the 10 on that?

23:06Andrew: Unfortunately, they score the first goal, which I felt was a product of them running their show a little bit physically. Yeah. Jake Crawford, a really good hockey player.

23:20Andrew: A couple times in this game.

23:22Andrew: And. And unfortunately, that was the only scoring in the first period. So it looked like we were. Might. We were down a player because of penalty minutes. We might have been down a player. I don't. I didn't.

23:32Justin: I was gonna Sam O'Reilly Hedrick came back right away. He did. He was back immediately. So that was all right.

23:36Andrew: Yeah. We didn't know if. We didn't know who was gonna step up in this kind of a physical sense, because nobody really did in that first period. No, I'm not saying there was a fight, but I just mean, like, the hitting wasn't. There was no response.

23:51Justin: No.

23:51Andrew: For me, anyway.

23:53Justin: Which was abnormal for the Rangers, especially what we learned about them last season.

23:56Andrew: Yeah, I thought that was a bit odd. I don't know if they were tired because it was like a double header and they were just back in Owen Sound. And Owen Sound, being their home opener, had some jump.

24:07Justin: You know what?

24:07Andrew: It's just crazy that Owen Sound had three games on the road before they had a home opener. Yes.

24:11Justin: That's very strange. But we know why. Because they had been renoing the building.

24:16Andrew: Oh, okay.

24:17Justin: And so the Renault just. They like that gave them that extra buffer week. So they didn't play any preseason games in the building. So this is like. Yeah, like they're basically their first weekend in that building. I think what happened with the Rangers is they all spent all Andrew practicing their Bayshore bounce, and now it's gone. And the Aud just gone.

24:35Andrew: Now there is no bouncing.

24:36Justin: And so they're. Yeah.

24:38Andrew: The bounceless Bay.

24:39Justin: The bounceless Bayshore with. But they didn't fix the high, the weird camera angles nor the contrast on

24:44Andrew: that camera on the broadcast.

24:48Andrew: When they do the insert. It looks great.

24:49Justin: It looks totally fine.

24:50Andrew: Anybody from OWN Sound is listening. Just got to lift the blacks or

24:58Andrew: All right, so then the second period starts and the Rangers look like the Rangers. They're back 2 minutes and 47 seconds into the period. Haeden Ellis, the man now has three goals this year.

25:09Justin: Yeah.

25:10Andrew: Getting real excited about Haeden Ellis. Three goals this year. He scores unassisted. And then a minute and a half later, give or take, Jack Pridham does the thing again that he's going to do a lot. That 37 and a half is already looking silly that I set for his over under. He has two goals in two games played, so I don't know. He missed two games, so he's on pace for 66. Jacob Zhu and Andrew MacNiel McNeil gets on the score sheet again.

25:39Justin: Yeah, that was a bomb shot by Zhu that Pridham tips in.

25:43Andrew: Exactly. And that was. That's great because that's what you're going to do to beat Carter George. Yeah, Carter George is very Good.

25:49Justin: He looked like he put this game on easy mode for himself. Like he never looked stressed.

25:54Andrew: And this. What this is, the issue with the rest of this game is that the Rangers were basically killing penalties the rest of this game.

26:00Justin: There's so many penalties.

26:01Andrew: And I say killing penalties loosely because they weren't. They were getting scored on power plays, essentially what was happening for the rest. And if you are on the penalty kill and you don't. And you now have lost the lead and now you're playing from behind and Carter George is in that. I watched the whole game, but I felt this isn't happening.

26:20Justin: I didn't need to watch this.

26:21Andrew: Yeah. Yeah. I don't think this is happening.

26:23Justin: Yeah.

26:23Andrew: Because sometimes you're losing games and you're like, I don't know, I'm going to stick with the boys till the end. I'm going to watch the whole game to the end anyway. But you're kind of like, you know what? No, I think if they get a bounce here.

26:32Justin: Yeah.

26:33Andrew: I think if they get a bounce here, it might happen. They might have a comeback. This just seemed. This was. Seemed like it was kind of. The energy was gone from the first period where they got knocked around a bit.

26:43Justin: Yep.

26:44Andrew: And then even when they were up 2 to 1, it didn't necessarily feel like, okay, now we've got it.

26:50Justin: You can't take two, give up two. Five on three. No advantages, no game.

26:55Andrew: No. And not only that, like, you can't. They only killed three of seven.

26:59Clip: Yes.

26:59Andrew: Like, they got scored on four out of seven.

27:01Justin: Yeah.

27:02Andrew: Power plays. It's just wasn't a great game. I mean, there was a power play. After the 3 to 2 goal, Jake Crawford's second goal against the Rangers, there was a power play. The Rangers were on with about three or four minutes left in that period. Yeah. And they had a decent chance and it didn't go in. And I felt like that was the chance.

27:27Justin: That was the breaking.

27:28Andrew: That was the chance had they scored there. It's a whole different third period. But it wasn't because they actually give up another goal. Like, it's okay. All right, so it's four to two now going into the third. And.

27:38Justin: Yeah, and then they had another five

27:40Andrew: on three and got scored on again.

27:41Justin: Got scored on. And. Yeah, that's what's going to happen when you got go five on three.

27:45Andrew: And look, there's games where we're going to complain about the refereeing, the officiating. There's games where there's going to be way too many Penalties and it's going to be mismanaged and all that kind of thing. Just feel like they rattled their cage. They got undisciplined and they lost the game because Owen Sound has an incredibly good goalie. And there's a bunch of guys on Owen Sound. They're a sneaky team.

28:15Andrew: He was all over the place.

28:16Justin: Yeah. We remember them from last year because they're guys.

28:20Andrew: Yeah. And it's just one of those things where they just have a team where you can't take them lightly. They've taken a step and as long as they have Carter George, because there was, you know, rumors that he could be available, I don't think he's going to be available. They're. They're four zero.

28:37Justin: Yeah. Owen Sound. You know what? At least we can learn something because we play them again on Friday for sure.

28:46Andrew: more prepared, I think. Listen, don't have a slow start. Yep. That's what we need. We can just basically jump right into previewing the Friday night game against Owen Sound at the Aud Don't come out slow.

31:19Justin: Okay, who's your second star?

31:21Andrew: My second star is Haeden Ellis. He has not stopped scoring. He is just going to keep scoring. I think. I think he's a little bit of a dark horse as far as I don't think anybody said Haeden Ellis is going to be one of the top scorers on the team and maybe he won't be. But early on he seems like he's in mid season form. I know that slumps happen, this is what how hockey works. But early on he's been really important. Yeah.

31:47Justin: You don't have to convince me. Haeden Ellis is also my second star.

31:49Andrew: Oh, really?

31:50Justin: I just like said it earlier last season we had some ups and downs with our power play and he seems like I. It's so limited but our power play is currently at 33% and I think he's a big part of that. So I think that he's. Whatever he's bringing to both the special teams and also just the team in general. Yeah, it's working. I think having preseason with them was a big help.

32:12Andrew: For sure. Yeah, for sure.

32:13Justin: Who's your first star?

32:14Andrew: My first star. I could not believe that he didn't have a star in the game. It is the new captain, Cameron Reid Nice. I thought that he was by far the best player on the ice against Erie.

32:24Clip: Yeah.

32:24Andrew: I felt like the game against Owen Sound. We throw out a little bit. So that kind of cancels that one out. So I'd have to. I have to put Cameron Reid as my first star.

32:34Justin: He wasn't. He was noticeable in good ways against OH and Sound. We didn't really talk about him, but he was still there.

32:39Andrew: He was managing a lot of the penalty kill time. There was a lot going on. We got to realize too, like, Luke Ellinas isn't playing yet. Carson Campbell isn't playing yet.

32:48Justin: We didn't mention it.

32:49Andrew: Oscar Hemming isn't playing yet. There are guys who are going to for sure, 100% always be in the lineup. They're not in here yet. Yeah. So Cameron Reid is playing more time than he actually will even be playing. Because you want to. We don't want him to be tired come playoffs.

33:07Andrew: So he played really well. I thought this was more that. I was annoyed that the media didn't give him a star in the first game because he was the captain and he had two primary assists and. Yeah, he's. But it was his night. Yeah. Yeah.

33:23Justin: Because he had some beautiful goals this week. Oh, yeah.

It's crazy how good they are on this. On their skates. It's unbelievable. It's like they're doing something else. Like in. In the NHL games, you have perks, elite edges. They have it Both of them. Yeah.

37:32Andrew: This is interesting because remember last year we were like, where do they go? Yeah. If they don't make the Tommy Kut like, they're still affiliated, where do they go?

37:40Andrew: When we said, okay, they go to the GOJHL or the no. JHL or whatever. Yeah. We were like, what. What is that? Whatever. Now they have an official, official, official affiliated system. And they've dropped the J. So they're the gohl. The Greater Andrew Hockey League.

37:58Justin: Great.

37:59Andrew: Which I don't like. There's the OHL and the gohl. You would almost think the greater one would be, I don't know. Anyway, they want to rebrand geographically. Yeah.

38:07Justin: Greater.

38:08Andrew: Yeah. So they are now officially affiliated.

38:10Justin: That's great.

38:11Andrew: So they are now a developmental league for the ohl, which is really positive because now it's less of a question mark for these players and these players families. Where are you going to end up? What are you going to do? If you don't necessarily, or if you're not ready necessarily, just step in. Because there's not a lot of people who are just newly drafted able to just walk into an OHL team and make especially a good team. If a good team drafts you, chances are you're not going to. And sometimes when the bad teams draft you, it's not good to go play in that environment anyway. It's really exciting that now there is an official developmental league and it is the GOHL or the Go hl and we have to celebrate that. Rangers prospect Alex Forrest was named the GOHL prospect of the week. That's right. I watched a little bit of the game that he was first star in. I think they won five to two and he was like all over the ice. Or maybe it was just five to two. I think it was seven to three. He unbelievable skater, this kid. Like, just like he looked. His skating looked good when he was playing with the Rangers early in the season. He looks like he's just. He's one of those guys that he's like going to be winning this throughout the season for the Cambridge Redhawks. And it's just that there's so much talent on the Rangers roster. I feel like if. If the Rangers had a weaker team, Alex Forrest would be on the team.

39:35Justin: We Sam O'Reilly already saw moments of that in the. In the first two games of the season.

39:39Andrew: Absolutely.

39:40Justin: Yeah.

39:41Andrew: They actually. He had four assists in a 15. Two win. And they're. The Redhawks are perfect. Six zero. So they're an absolute powerhouse, which bodes well for all the Rangers affiliated. But Alex Forrest especially.

39:55Justin: Yeah.

39:55Andrew: He was dominant last year as a U16 AAA player. And it continues and it won't be long before he's in the Ranger silks.

40:03Justin: Congratulations, Alex. Okay, we were gonna. We're basically gonna parrot the. Aud the OHL podcast talked about this last week.

40:11Clip: Yes.

40:11Justin: So there's been a. There's been lots of online discourse there has around about. I think Rangers fans particularly are talking about this because our first game of the season was against Brantford.

40:23Andrew: Yes.

40:24Justin: And Branford is in the east, even though they're west of Kitchener.

40:27Clip: Yeah.

40:28Justin: They're in the Eastern Division, but they. They didn't have all their players, nor did the Rangers. And this is like a marquee matchup for the season.

40:35Andrew: Yes.

40:35Justin: So everyone's a little bit unhappy that the first game of the season. Although you want the first game of the season to be an exciting matchup, this year particularly, there were a major absence of the top end talent on both teams. And essentially what they were saying on the OHL podcast is the OHL started a week earlier this year than they typically do, which kind of makes sense why so many players were still in development. Can't. Because even as we saw, if they had started this weekend, the Rangers had almost their whole team back. Yeah.

41:05Andrew: Yeah.

41:05Justin: So it was one of those things where it's one week does make a major difference. The thing that's going to change next year is we don't know when the OHL season is going to start next year. Maybe they'll go back to when it normally started or. We don't know why that we started a week early this year. But also the NHL is starting a week or more earlier next year because they are adding two games onto their schedule. They are shortening the preseason.

41:28Andrew: There's only four preseason games. Yeah.

41:30Justin: So a lot of these guys are going to get cut way sooner and might even make it back to the ohl. Depending on when we start. Is they might make it back for development camps or training camps or whatever here in the ohl.

41:42Andrew: That's. I think it's for the best that the big home opener has the premier talent. I understand. Maybe one or two players that are like on the cusp of making an NHL team or even making an NHL team. I understand.

41:55Justin: But we both played with three lines, but.

41:57Andrew: Yeah.

41:57Justin: Three forward lines. But that's silly.

41:58Andrew: Yeah.

41:59Justin: And that was too much.

42:00Andrew: Yeah. And so I think that you're sitting there going, it's a. We're singing a very different tune. Yeah. If the Rangers lose that game, three. Nothing.

42:07Justin: Yeah.

42:07Andrew: Don't come back.

42:08Justin: Yeah.

42:08Andrew: We're complaining about how this is. This. We're missing all of our. All of our top end talent. And that was the home opener at the Aud And you only get one shot at the home opener at the Aud And it's sold out and people are buying stuff and the Aud sours maybe a little bit. Like your customer base. A little bit. Yeah. Don't get me wrong. The fans, like Kitchener Rangers fans, are some of the best. Absolutely. But let's say all those people who just go down to the rink a couple times a year, which is totally. That's a fan and that's a type of person. That's the type of customer that you have to try and tap into and keep them coming. Because it does make a difference. Right. Because there's lots of people who can only do that a couple times. If you come out and kind of lay an egg, maybe that's not the best for business. So I think in order to keep the league as healthy as it already is, make it even healthier, is that this is good. We need to have some of the top talent back.

43:02Justin: Yeah.

43:02Andrew: Like I said, some can be away doing their thing, pursuing the ultimate dream. But like you got to have more than nine forwards.

43:10Justin: Yeah. And it might. And like we just talked about it might work out in the wash now. It could just work.

43:16Clip: But it's.

43:16Justin: I think the OHL needs to be aware.

43:18Andrew: Yeah.

43:19Justin: That this was like, not ideal this year. Yeah. And you got to think that the Rangers. The team salvaged that night.

43:25Andrew: The Rangers and Branford were the only teams dealing with this. They weren't the only ones. Yeah. So I think you got to think in these other markets where maybe attendance isn't as good and the fan base isn't as die hard as Kitchener, that maybe now if you have a bad home opener, they think, you know, they lose business throughout the season. You know, that's just a fact. Oh, we'll go in January.

43:45Clip: Oh.

43:46Andrew: Whereas if you get excited, if it's close, if it's a close spot game, you know that casual fan is going to say, well, that was a lot of fun. They lost, but that was a lot of fun.

43:55Justin: We know that ticket sales dip in the first half. November. Ish time. So it's like this is the time when you got to make your sales pitch.

44:04Andrew: Yeah.

44:04Justin: To. To the fans. To be like, no, it's good. Immediately. Yeah.
