The story

Meet the AudBalls

Did you know the AudBalls met in the summer of 2014 in the Badlands of Alberta? Yup. Andrew, an actor desperate for work; Justin, a production manager looking to take advantage of actors who were desperate for work. Justin and Tim were sharing a house; Andrew lived in a van in a decommissioned campground by the river. Glorious times. They went on to become fast friends and creative partners, working on a YouTube webseries and then going deep into the world of fantasy hockey, where they co-commission a league.

Justin

Justin

Calgary Flames fan

Born in the presence of the glorious Rocky Mountains, Justin grew up in Calgary going to the Saddledome to watch the Flames. 2004 was a big hockey year for Justin, watching the Flames go to the Stanley Cup final and then lose by a terrible call from the NHL. It was in. No wonder his grandpa always said the NHL was rigged.

He then went to theatre school and worked as a stage and production manager for many years on many shows around Southern Alberta. He loves a good musical and got to work on some fun ones like Fiddler on the Roof and Jeremy de Bergerac (which is now called Crossing Swords if you’re googling it). During that time he met his wife Ariel, who wanted to move back to Ontario, and that’s how he came to find himself in the Waterloo region. He now spends his days with his daughter Violet and his dog Lucy, often half-making apps on his computer, playing D&D, or making pizza.

But the itch for hockey didn’t go away. So Andrew took him to his first Rangers game, telling him, “You gotta see The Aud, the fans are nuts!” And they were. In the best way.

Andrew

Andrew

Edmonton Oilers fan

Originally from Edmonton (home of the actual best Alberta NHL team), he studied theatre at U of Lethbridge. He moved to Toronto in 2015, spending 2016 as the famously annoying Sportsnet Now commercial guy. After meeting his wife, Jessica, during COVID, they ditched Toronto for Kitchener because, frankly, Liberty Village sucks.

By day, he delivers mail in Waterloo until someone finally pays him to talk into a microphone or camera full-time. By night, he’s chasing his son Quinn, swaddling his daughter Macy, or teaching tap dance (a habit he’s kept since age three).

Now an accredited OHL media member and co-creator of The AudPod, his personal highlight reel includes Luc Ellinas’ Game 7 goal against Windsor, being handed the Robertson by Jack Pridham, and having a parking lot recording session crashed by Sam O’Reilly’s parents.

Tim

Tim

The Producer & Editor

Tim, the only natural born Ontarian, also the only one with siblings. You’d think that would make him question why he’s taken on the responsibility of big-brothering Andrew and Justin. Tim cut his ears in the audio production industry, starting out by cleaning toilets in a studio in Maui. And it’s only been uphill from there, literally: when he met Justin, he was working in an audio booth at the top of a hill, with really janky stairs to get there, and when it rained the dirt around the booth turned to the slipperiest mud, bentonite, the stuff Wendy’s puts in their milkshakes. That was also in Alberta, but like Andrew and Justin, their wives determined Ontario was the place to be, and so Tim is back in the land of swamp butt and excellent tomatoes. Making video games and music and lifting absurd amounts of weight… it’s a choice.
