2:53Justin: Literally. Andrew, Justin, over the course of the summer, we interviewed some fabulous guests and I have a few takeaways about this organization that we've fallen so deeply in love with.

3:09Justin: I'd like to roll out my picnic blanket, put on my cozy sweater, smoke my pipe.

3:14Andrew: All right, I'm in. I was. I didn't know which way that was going to go. And then when you said pipe, I said, all right,

3:22Justin: slice and pipe. This is. Hey.

3:24Andrew: Oh, let's rot our teeth with some pure tobacco.

3:29Justin: Yes. Yes. Okay. Our wooden teeth. Okay. First of all, we've definitely learned this is an incredibly run organization and the players love it here.

3:38Andrew: Truly.

3:39Justin: I think Christian Humphreys said it at least three times.

3:42Andrew: Yeah.

3:42Justin: How great this organization is, but that was echoed through every single player that we talked to. This is like. Yeah. There's nothing more to say. They love it here. The organization's great. The players love it. It's awesome.

3:56Andrew: Just truly top tier. Like, the people who work in the organization are incredibly professional, really attentive, really community forward thinking. Like, that's the key with everything being a community owned organization. But the coolest thing is that they seem to all really enjoy their jobs.

4:13Justin: Yes.

4:13Andrew: Everyone we've dealt with, it's not been. There's been nobody who's even with even knowing how stressful it has been down at the Aud with the renovations and everything. No. Everyone has had time for us, which no one needs to have time for us. All right. Except for our wonderful listeners that we love. We love that you have time for us. But the people down working for the Rangers and playing for the Rangers do not have to have time.

4:39Justin: No. And they've been incredibly gracious. Which really leads into the. My. My second point that I've learned is that these players there's. Because the turnover is so fast. It's incredible how like a culture kind of sticks to this team.

4:52Andrew: Yeah. For sure.

4:53Justin: And you can see that this culture that. This team that like, that we got to enjoy so much last year in just like having this amazing team of these groups of guys who just seem like super tight, like loved each other, just loved playing hockey together last season. Like, that's just like years and years of culture building where there's. There's no hazing, there's no like weird stuff happening with the 16 year olds that come into the team. Yeah.

5:20Andrew: There's no like belittling. There's no just. It's not even keep to yourself kind of thing. Like we. We were actually at the Aud yesterday. Yeah, we're recording this on Tuesday.

5:28Justin: Yeah, this is Tuesday.

5:29Andrew: And we were at the Aud yesterday and we're. We were talking to three of the younger Rangers.

5:34Justin: Drop incoming. Coming. Yeah.

5:35Andrew: Evan Headrick Jason Schaubel and Alexander Bilecki And they were, first of all, so professional, which is just right across the board with everyone that we've talked to.

5:45Justin: They were on their lunch break from school.

5:48Andrew: But the cool thing was, is that was what we brought up was like they loved the fact that the older guys didn't separate themselves.

5:56Justin: Yeah.

5:57Andrew: Which I guess that I could see

5:58Justin: that happening or feel like lesser individuals and. But that's like an organization wide. That's an everybody. But that doesn't. Like we. When we talk to Ando about that, like, he. He talked about as being a leader of this team is like including everybody, but he. He learned that from somebody else. This isn't just like a. It could be just Ando, but I think it's. I think it's just like a long term organization. It really ties to the first point, but it's. It's been a part of this organization's culture for a long time.

6:26Andrew: It certainly seems like that I just. With them inviting us down there and bringing us in. We did. I didn't. I had imposter syndrome.

6:34Justin: Yeah.

6:35Andrew: But not because of anything anybody said or did.

6:38Justin: Yeah.

6:38Andrew: It was just. That's just me, for sure. You know what I mean?

6:42Justin: Okay. My third point, we learned that Ando's bad reputation around music is actually a frame job by the whole team. That's true. And literally this could be fixed by Ando putting a passcode on his phone.

6:53Andrew: Yeah. Why is your phone on? Like, why are you on the Aud as the kids Sam O'Reilly know what, though? That's one. He's taken one for the team.

7:00Justin: He's literally taking one for the team. Yeah.

7:03Andrew: His algorithm.

7:04Justin: I don't know. Yeah. Real wonky.

7:05Andrew: Yeah.

7:06Justin: I learned about some country music star. This isn't a point that I'm. I've learned, but I did learn about a country music star that the whole team seems to love. I saw the Instagrams. They were all all over the place. Morgan Wayland concert.

7:18Andrew: Yeah.

7:18Justin: I'm like, I don't know who this is, but great.

7:20Andrew: That's how old we are. Oh, yeah. Or maybe not old enough.

7:23Justin: Maybe not old enough.

7:24Andrew: I don't want to discriminate.

7:25Justin: The Juice was there. He was. I don't. I really don't know how old the Juice is. I can't Imagine. I can't imagine the Juice at a concert.

7:35Andrew: He's just sitting there looking like he's

7:37Justin: not having fun,

7:41Andrew: but truly probably having the time of his life.

7:43Justin: Yeah.

7:44Andrew: I don't know for sure.

8:29Andrew: Very quick side note. The only time I've ever been in a theater, a fellow actor said Macbeth in the theater.

8:36Andrew: During. During the play. Our heads clashed on stage accidentally and his teeth bled the whole show. So don't say it.

8:45Justin: I bet that was a great show. Okay, so everyone has the. Everyone has a nickname, but nobody has. Nobody calls the Juice anything other. Like the most informal. You see. You see? You see?

8:57Andrew: That's all they call him.

8:57Justin: Yeah. Some of them called him coach. A hocus. Yeah. Sure.

9:00Andrew: But everyone that we talked to in the interviews was saying, you see.

9:03Justin: So the Soo is Bertie. Yeah. Yeah. But UC is uc You. Yeah, that's it. Yeah.

9:11Andrew: You don't give him a nickname.

9:12Justin: Apparently, he does not have a nickname. We're ballsy enough to do it. Maybe I'm actually more scared of him now after yesterday.

9:19Andrew: Yes. I didn't realize how big he was.

9:24Justin: Yeah.

9:25Andrew: And immediately was like, please don't make this conversation longer than it needs to be. Which.

9:30Justin: No. He was very nice. He was very nice. Very nice. But it was.

9:35Justin: He was going to throw you in the sauna. Yeah, absolutely. Okay. Those were my four takeaways. Okay. Yeah. That was all.

9:43Justin: I just. I was reminiscing about our summer of interviews and we had some great ones.

9:48Andrew: We had some great ones. We had some great moments. There's some stuff that you didn't see that we weren't recording. Like just talking to the guys behind the scenes. Just having chats with friend of the Pod. Sean Furfaro out after the pod. There's just stuff that just really made us feel like we're a part of the community and that includes like with the fans. Like probably the highlight so far. For me, everything's been awesome. But the highlight so far is we went to Fan Fest and people recognized us and wanted to take pictures with us, which is amazing because you guys are just excited about Rangers hockey. We're just guys who meet at the library and talk about the Rangers. The reason why they're excited about us is because of the Kitchener Rangers.

10:30Justin: Yeah.

10:30Andrew: Yeah. So it's pretty exciting to be a part of this community compared to where we were last year.

10:35Justin: We.

10:35Andrew: When we were like Andanos Sque.

10:39Justin: Who said that? I don't know who said that. Okay, next, as we said, we are recording on Tuesday, September the Soo Friday is when you're going to be listening to this episode. Obviously nobody would listen.

11:10Justin: Even 20 minutes ago we checked, we had been looking at the roster, the preseason roster, and the 25:26 roster was not in existence.

11:18Andrew: No.

11:19Justin: And then the website populated 20 minutes ago and it was all there. We are woefully unprepared, but we are just going to now go through the Andrew roster and. And talk about players.

11:33Andrew: Yeah. Briefly, we'll touch on.

11:34Justin: Yeah, we're just going to talk about the.

11:36Andrew: Some of these guys pretty well, we don't need to say too much.

11:40Justin: So let's start with the. Let's start with the forwards.

11:42Andrew: Sure.

11:42Justin: And they're in alphabetical order, so prepare yourself for Avry Anstis Yeah.

11:48Andrew: Avry Anstis a right winger out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So maybe there's a Humphreys connection. I don't know. The hockey world Smolt.

11:56Justin: Yep. And rookie this season. So he's an oh, 8er.

11:59Andrew: He's young, he's coming in and we're excited about him.

12:02Justin: Yeah. This is great.

12:03Andrew: Yep.

12:04Justin: Then of course, we got Arky.

12:05Andrew: Yeah.

12:06Justin: Cameron Arquette, as everyone says, is the

12:08Andrew: funniest guy on the team.

12:09Justin: Yeah.

12:09Andrew: Near consensus funniest guy on the team. Correct. Cameron, I think at some point you're going to have to appear on the AudPod or at least on the social media, send us one way or another.

12:19Justin: Yeah, exactly.

12:20Andrew: Because we need him. All right.

12:22Justin: And then. Okay, be funny.

12:23Andrew: Now we got another returning a young man and Haeden Ellis, another winger out of Buffalo. New York is a fair amount of states. Yeah.

12:33Justin: Some American blood.

12:34Andrew: I'm really excited about Haeden Ellis this year. I think there was things that happened in the preseason. I don't want to get too far into it, but he looked really good in the preseason because we'll talk about that a little bit later. He looked really good. I think that he was starting to come into his own as the season went on. He's a smaller player.

12:52Justin: He joined halfway through last season.

12:54Andrew: He's a small. He's a smaller player as far as these giant Goliath human beings are. I'm excited to see his offensive game flourish a little bit more. So I think he could be a little bit of what you call a sleeper pick to have a lot more points than he did last year in

13:09Justin: our fantasy drafting of this team.

13:11Andrew: Absolutely.

13:12Justin: Of which we both just take the Andrew team. Yeah. Speaking of which, we have Weston Cameron.

13:17Andrew: Weston Cameron, also a rookie this year.

13:19Justin: Rookie this year.

13:20Andrew: Soft spot for Weston Cameron, because we can let it out now. We ran into him last year on the concourse and he recognized us during

13:28Justin: the London game we went to in the playoffs. He recognized us. Yeah.

13:31Andrew: And again, was very professional, very gracious, and was like, you guys are the Aud part.

13:38Justin: And we're like, we can tell you're a hockey player, but we do not know who you are in a jersey on. You're in a suit, but I don't

13:44Andrew: know who you are. He introduced himself and he was very

13:46Justin: humble human being, very nice.

13:48Andrew: We're really glad he made the team. Yeah. I'm rooting for west and Cameron all the way.

13:52Justin: Yeah. Soft spot for us for sure.

13:54Andrew: Yeah.

13:54Justin: Then, of course, we got Mr. Ice in his veins. Luke Ellinas Yeah.

13:58Andrew: LeBron Elenis there. Yeah. He. He's. He's poised this year, I think, to be that guy that we thought last year we were like, he could be. He could lead the team in scoring. But the great thing was the team was a system where it was. Everyone was going to play somewhat equally. Like the first, the top six and the bottom six had the same roles, and they are. I don't mean the same roles as each other, but top six played top six minutes. There was no one two. It was just one A, one B. Yeah. And I think this year, I think Luke Ellinas again, he's going to be the driver. He's one of the most skilled players on the team and he drives play. He's able to get away from defenders and get to open areas and score. And he's also able to set, set plays up. He's that guy. And he'll drop the gloves, so it's one of those things. He's a leader all the way around. And the Rangers without LNS is a very different team than the Rangers with

14:58Justin: Ellenis, even if he's not getting points, he's often creating things happening. Like he. He'll create more than he'll ever be recognized for.

15:04Andrew: Absolute.

15:05Justin: Like the power of having Elena's on your team.

15:06Andrew: Yeah.

15:07Justin: Speaking of creating things and not always getting recognized for. Jack Pridham is next.

15:12Andrew: Jack Pridham, our guy from Stouffville, Andrew Yeah, Our boy Pridz. Just an absolute beauty of an interview that we had. If you haven't watched those interviews, stop this. What is this? Go back.

15:28Andrew: But no, Jack Pridham gave us an incredible interview. Again, very gracious, very humble, and was just very excited about this year and was focused on one thing. And what was that, Justin?

15:44Andrew: Just winning. He basically just dropped it into the conversation that he just wanted to win a champion.

15:49Justin: That's all he wants to do. He just wants to win. That's what he's got. And we love it. Yeah. And Trent Swick said he's going to score the most goals on the OHL this year, so.

15:58Andrew: Yeah, And I think. I think Jack was a little sheepish about it, but very humble about it. And I think that if the team needs him to score the most goals in the OHL to win, then he'll do that.

16:10Justin: And I. I'm gonna still. I'm gonna push the gas on that one.

16:15Justin: We have our friend Andrew Vermeulen Yes.

16:18Andrew: From Selkirk, Andrew He's just a do everything for you. Jack of all trades. He can score, he can fight, he can trade. He can. Yeah, true. He can check. He can. He do whatever you want. He can. He's there. He's an ultimate team guy. Love this player. Loved watching him. Thought he was such a good acquisition last year for Mike McKenzie for sure.

16:41Andrew: really exciting young player. Yeah, this is exciting. He's not technically designated as a rookie, but we didn't see a ton of Stark, so.

16:48Justin: Looking forward to seeing.

16:49Andrew: I'm really excited about this because I think he could provide some depth for this team.

16:55Justin: And I don't this next guy, I'm sure that he is listed taller than he was last year on this.

17:02Justin: Our buddy, Tanner Lam who lighten up the highlight reels in the preseason. Dirty Dangles Lamb.

17:09Andrew: That's right. Brampton's finest. Yeah. Tanner Lam I think goes without saying we're both really excited about this player.

17:16Andrew: We think that this is a guy who should have been drafted. We think this is a guy who's getting drafted this year.

17:23Andrew: Another year. Because he's going to take another step. And that's the thing, is he was diminutive in size last year, but not in what he brings to the game. Exactly. So I'm excited that he's going to also step up and improve on his point totals.

17:39Justin: Yes. And then we have Mr. Hulk Puncher himself, Matthew Lechar.

17:44Andrew: Yeah, we love Matthew Hlacar He is a. A beauty.

17:48Justin: He. He got drafted this summer.

17:50Andrew: He got drafted, which is exciting. So I think a lot of people will be excited that he's in the Leafs organization. He had a scrap at the training camp in the summer with a, with a teammate. You gotta love that. It was all in good sp. Nobody walked away from that upset. It looked, you know, just one of those things that happens.

18:09Andrew: And I'm excited. I'm rooting for this guy. He's 6' 3, 205. This is. He's a man. Yeah, this is. Yeah. And sneaky little release. Sneaky little shot.

19:33Justin: Good kid for sure. And he had a bit of a shortened season last year because of an injury. So we're looking forward to see it. This. Obviously he was young. Just joined the team last year as a 16 year old. Regardless, it's always harder to get into the Tommy Kut this year, second year.

19:46Andrew: That was a deep team.

19:47Justin: It was a deep team. So looking forward to seeing how he fits into this team this year. And I think still very young.

19:52Andrew: He's 2008.

19:53Justin: Yeah.

19:54Andrew: And he's a first round draft pick. So let's.

19:57Justin: Looking forward to seeing. I'm excited. Yep. Oh, and then we got Mr. Mr. Cheese Grater himself, Luca Romano.

20:04Andrew: I love this player. So did the New York Islanders. What else do you need to say about this guy? He does it everything. Does everything right. He's responsible. He scores overtime winners.

20:14Justin: He'll.

20:15Andrew: He'll play that. He played that second line center role if he needed to. He played that first line center role if he needed to. He's the type of guy that I think everyone in Rangers nation expects to take a huge leap. I.

20:31Justin: And then last but not least on the forwards list is Jack LaBrash Yes.

20:36Andrew: I'm excited about the size. Jack LaBrash is. 6, 5, £200.

20:47Andrew: He's a specimen. I'm excited to see him get more time because he looked good in limited time and he had a different role. But if he can develop an offensive touch, which I'm sure he has, then sky's the limit.

21:25Andrew: He had an incredible hit in the preseason which we might be able to sprinkle in right here. But he's. He was so important, I think in like the Windsor series. He was important. You know, down the stretch when guys like Ando and Reed didn't need to be playing like crazy minutes just to have like a third defenseman who can just minute munch.

21:51Justin: Yeah. Unbelievable. Yeah.

21:52Andrew: And he. It's. This is his last year.

21:55Justin: Yep.

21:56Andrew: So I'm excited. I obviously I want them to win it all, but when you see a guy like that who like is a heart and soul, leaves it all out there and is skilled. Yeah, I'm excited for his season.

22:05Justin: We saw him last year play up in. In pretty much any role needed. Yeah, we saw him. We saw him play offense. We. We saw him play def. Not as a forward, but. Yeah, he played it offensively as a defenseman and he played obviously defensively as a defenseman.

22:19Andrew: He can do it if he needs to. Absolutely.

22:21Justin: Yeah. Whatever's called upon, like you said.

He is again a super important player because he's like one of those guys I just always grew up loving that, like tough as nails, steady Eddie defenseman who will block shots like they're going out of style. And I don't know if, you know, he's banged up or if he's just the Aud man out or whatever, but to have that kind of veteran that can step in if there's injuries, which, you know there's going to be injuries whether he's in the lineup on Friday or if he's in the lineup consistently or if he's just in and out, what an incredible asset to have.

24:27Andrew: He is steady as they come. And I love the physical presence he has.

And obviously I think he's going to be in a tandem this year and they brought in somebody else here that we're going to talk about out in a moment. But this is just going to allow Shawl have a bigger piece of the pie this year.

27:26Andrew: Because let's be honest, last year he was a like, very young player and he was backing up the best junior goalie on the planet.

28:02Andrew: Yes. Very exciting. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2024. Six foot four, 193 pounds.

28:09Andrew: He's a big guy. He's. He's going to play that big positional style. I'll be interested to see. I haven't seen much of him. I'll be interested to see how athletic he is as. And how much he relies on positioning. Just when you get to that 6 foot 4 and above, for sure, it's. It starts to be a bit more of a math game because you're just taking up so much net.

28:30Andrew: I'm excited because I just think that obviously Mike McKenzie makes moves for the team to win and brings in good people and here we are again, for sure.

28:40Justin: Yeah, I think it's a. I think it's a great move. I'm looking forward to this tandem for the season. Seeing how that works out. Because it is like this is goaltending. Is the position that was always going to be different this year than last year.

29:44Justin: In a lot of their rosters.

29:45Andrew: But we also know last year Trent Swick was nowhere to be found. Yeah.

29:52Justin: wanted posters on milk cartons for Trent Swick last year.

29:55Andrew: And then we had to say goodbye to Pugliese. And it was heartbreaking because Antonino Puglies, he was having a pretty great season. He was doing some pretty awesome stuff for the team. What I have noticed now.

30:08Andrew: Is that there isn't too many overagers on the team.

30:12Justin: Yeah.

30:12Andrew: So there is space for Ando to come back.

30:15Justin: Correct. Yeah. Yeah. Because right now our overagers are Pridham and Chromiak. Obviously. We know they had to let a few guys go over the summer.

30:26Justin: There's room for Ando to come back. The other guy's missing. Reed, Christian Humphreys They're missing right now. But they're not over agers. So they can slot right in when they get back. Yeah.

31:39Justin: Yeah. So we played five preseason games. We played the first one against Branford, who, spoiler alert, is who we're playing on opening night.

31:48Andrew: Yes, exactly.

31:49Justin: We did lose to them 4 to 3. And then we played Oshawa, who we won 4 to 1 against.

31:55Andrew: Yeah.

31:55Justin: And then we played Saginaw, who we won 64 against. And then we played Oshawa, again, who we won 72 against. Yeah.

32:02Andrew: Things may be not looking good for Oshawa. I don't know. It's preseason the Soo you never know. Yeah.

32:05Justin: Preseason.

32:06Andrew: But it was seven to nothing after two.

32:08Justin: Yeah. Yeah. And then we lost Windsor in our Last preseason game 4 to 2, the Atlas Tube Center. That so cool.

32:17Andrew: That's what's going on in Windsor.

32:19Justin: Yeah. And a couple of notable highlights. This one thing that I found interesting is that I was like, oh, who scored the most points in our preseason games? Three players tied for five points.

32:29Andrew: Yeah.

32:30Justin: Which kind of goes back to last season where it wasn't. There's not a standout individual on this team because it is a team that plays together. They all score together too, like that. We saw that last year as well. Yeah.

32:41Andrew: And it's part of the coaching system. There's no. There's no focus of. Let's make sure we get this one player 25 minutes a night.

32:47Justin: It's just not.

32:48Andrew: That's not how they coach.

32:50Justin: Not at all. Yeah. So Haeden Ellis, Evan Nicholson and Avery Ans. This all got five points each.

32:55Andrew: Very excited about all those guys too. They weren't on this list that populated on the Rangers website. Some of them, for example. Also Alex Forrest on defense. Yeah. Playing really well. So don't we're taking it with a grain of salt that this list is populated here, but it is the official page that we. So if you weren't. If you were wanting to hear about a prospect or a potential ranger, listen, if they're there on, on Friday, we will talk about them next week and we will sing their praises, I'm sure, 100%.

33:27Justin: Yep. Our goals leader, interestingly, Haeden Ellis, all five of his points were goals.

33:32Andrew: So that's what I was saying was I noticed that he had a bit of a penchant for putting the puck in the net. So I'm excited about him this year. I think he could. I think he could really develop.

33:42Justin: And then assists. We again have three players who tied for four assists during the preseason. We have Avry Anstis Cameron Arquette and Jacob Zhu.

33:50Andrew: Yes. You know, Avery special honorable mention. Had an incredible backhand pass assist that I saw that came out from behind the net and was such an easy goal. Just beautiful creativity that you don't see a lot nowadays.

34:05Justin: For sure. Shabble played three of the five games. He had a.231 goals against average and a.917 save percentage, which is.

34:12Andrew: We'll take it.

34:13Justin: Yeah.

34:13Andrew: Yep.

34:14Justin: Hell yeah. Yeah.

34:15Andrew: Top three seed if you have that net.

34:17Justin: Yep. Because remember, he watched the best hockey goaltender in junior hockey last year and he's like, oh, yeah, I can do that. Yep. We did see Sam O'Reilly little bit of Owen Edwards. He was in against Branford. We know Branford is pretty highly touted this year. And then we saw Kirsch as well. New. Very new to the team. So both of these guys, they weren't sitting on the bench watching this team or backing them up last year. Goaltenders, we always give them extra time to learn about what's going on.

34:47Andrew: Yes, absolutely. There is also one Ranger that we have not talked about. Tell me that is being held up.

34:57Justin: Border security.

34:58Andrew: Border security. Nothing like that. But there is a situation with his old club in Finland.

35:04Justin: Oh, yes.

35:05Andrew: Oscar Hemming, who is, I won't ever Sam O'Reilly replacement for a player who welched on his commitment. But a upgrade, an upgrade for a undersized forward that is going to the ncaa. So the. That'll work out, I'm sure. Yep. And I hope it does because I'm not bitter.

35:25Andrew: What I'm excited for is Oscar Hemming.

Heavy weeks, but not as many triple headers as we had last year, thankfully. Yeah. Last year, there was, like. I think we had eight triple headers in this year, I think we have four or five. So it's, like, way gentler of a schedule this year for the Rangers, which is great.
