2:33Justin: Take it away, fellas. All right. Okay. So last week we were talking trades, and we, of course, we recorded on Tuesday. Again, we're recording on Tuesday. This week, we. I didn't really feel like we were done trading on Tuesday. Last week. I agree. But I did not anticipate the mega deal with the devil that we ended up making through the end of the week. It was like Wednesday, I think, was the. When this. Because we didn't actually trade on trade deadline day. No, we were done. We were done. But it made sense after you saw this trade.

3:05Andrew: I'm going to be honest, I listened back to the episode and I was like, what are these two jokers talking about? The championship window opening and being open in 2027.

3:15Justin: No, no, no. It's this year. It's this year. It's 100% this year. This year.

3:20Andrew: Because everything changed.

3:21Justin: Yes, everything changed. So this trade, again, you live under a rock and you only listen to the AudPod for all your Kitchener Rangers news. You wouldn't know about this, but then if you watch the games, you would know about this. So we did. Technically, we did two trades on Wednesday last week, but really it was one trade and it was with the London Knights.

3:43Justin: Very strange. So over. Even though there were two trades, we can talk about that a little bit. But, yeah, Overall, we traded 11 draft picks and the rights to Kane Bar to the London Knights for Jared Woolley and their captain, Sam O'Reilly Yeah.

4:00Justin: Which. Which made it 10 captains moved at the trade deadline this year. Thank you, Mallory, for doing that leg work for us. She.

6:17Andrew: And I heard on the. On today's OHL podcast, we're recording on a Tuesday, on the OHL podcast, Mike Farwell and Dan Mahar, they said that both those players. Their first goal of the season came on shorthanded goals.

6:32Andrew: First goal as a Kitchener Rangers Ranger.

6:34Justin: Yes, they did.

6:36Andrew: Guess who else is dead.

6:37Justin: Dylan Edwards. Yes. Oh, yeah.

6:44Justin: It was the same penalty that O'Reilly scored on, wasn't it? He bounced it off the board in. On the shorthanded. No, I think so.

7:51Andrew: Like. Yeah, Jared Woolley is a great player is what. I've only seen him now. I've. Obviously I saw him and he frustrated me as a London Knights Yeah, he was good. But I've seen him now play two games for the Kitchener Rangers and I'm like, okay, that's that, that's that problem taking care of size and grit. And also he happens to have silky mitts. So, yeah, that's just. That's. And I won't. I would never say that someone is the throw in because they're both such good players. But Sam O'Reilly was like the big name in the press. That was said to be because he's the captain and because he was a first round draft pick. And I understand all that. And he was involved in like an NHL trade already and all that of stuff. I understand that. But like Jared Woolley on his own, if he was. We're just getting Jared Woolley Yeah, that's a great pickup.

8:40Justin: Yeah, it's totally great. And then we also got Sam.

8:42Andrew: And then also we got the captain of the London night, Sam O'Reilly So

8:46Justin: it's really interesting because. Because London obviously is like just not going for it this year.

8:51Andrew: Three points behind the Kitchener Rangers when they made this.

8:53Justin: And how have we. When have we. I mean, we're new, but like, when does London ever not go for it? He's so weird.

9:06Andrew: Punted fourth in the conference, three points behind, out of the division.

9:17Andrew: That makes sense. We're not good enough to win it.

9:26Andrew: Good on them. That was a very savvy trade, I think was.

9:29Justin: Because realistically now they've loaded up so they can never lose again.

9:33Andrew: I know. And I think those guys. We talked about the overager problem last week. Now there's 10 overagers next year. I think if London is willing to trade these guys, I think there might be some alternate plans next year for these two. So. Yeah, that's what I'll say without speculating. I just saying that I'd be very surprised if they played in the NHL next year.

9:55Justin: That's all, Andrew. Speculating without speculating. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, and there were also two. Two picks that came back to Kitchener. So the. There was two trades. So there was like, I think there were 10 draft picks traded for Jared Woolley and Sam O'Reilly And then there were two draft picks from London, one draft pick and the rights to Kane Birchie in a second trade. And that's only because I believe you can't trade the rights for players or some. There's no, there's something along.

10:23Andrew: Don't get the compensatory. Oh, compensatory pick. You don't get that. You don't get the compensatory pick if you trade the players rights for anything but a draft pick.

10:34Justin: Right. And one of the. One of the picks we got back from London in that second rate was a compensatory pick. Yes, that's the clarification on that. Yeah. So yes, there were two, technically two trades, but obviously this was one trade.

10:45Andrew: It was just two. It was just two different photocopies sent to the. Of the paper work.

10:49Justin: Yeah, yeah. Because rules. Yeah. Okay. Andrew, we got two games to talk about this week.

10:54Justin: This is our last two game week of the season.

10:56Justin: Every other week is three or four games.

10:59Andrew: It is a heavy a game, heavy schedule down the stretch.

11:03Justin: It's the opposite of what we had last year. Last year we started heavy and got lighter. This year it's pretty. Actually pretty even three games. We've mostly had three game weeks. Very few. Four game weeks. Yeah. So the first game was Friday night against Oshawa. We were at home at the Aud Yeah, the one. The major storyline here really is there

11:23Andrew: was Brian Bellow's night.

11:24Justin: There was Brian Bellows night. But there was also like a weird patch on the offensive zone for the Rangers where they played twice. So first and third period where players just kept slipping center ice because they went over the blue line.

11:36Andrew: Yeah.

11:37Justin: They just couldn't stay on their feet. So that's the biggest storyline, the biggest story. Nothing else is to talk about.

11:43Andrew: Absolutely nothing else. Couldn't possibly be something very controversial that happened.

11:48Justin: Yeah.

11:49Andrew: A lot of people who have bad takes feel justified in their bad takes.

11:56Justin: Ando basically scoring the first goal, but actually Anstice scored the first goal because he's an artist.

12:01Andrew: Yes, of course. He's the finisher.

12:03Justin: He's the finisher.

12:04Andrew: The anstice finished there. He looked at it and he said, what does it need? It needs that right there.

12:12Justin: And I love how humble. We talked to Anstas after the game. We talked to Ando too, after the game. But we talked to Anset and I asked him about this goal and he's. He's. I just had my. I knew where I needed my stick. I.

12:22Andrew: Yes, yes.

12:23Justin: And I was like.

12:23Andrew: We did post that interview. Yes. Avry Anstis very humble, gave the credit to Ando. A good teammate for sure. He got his seventh of the season to open it up.

12:34Andrew: Seven goals for an limited opportunities for sure. This is the bottom line is.

12:39Andrew: We said to his face, this team is only getting deeper.

12:42Andrew: And you're still in the lineup because you force yourself into the lineup. We can't take Avry Anstis out of the lineup. I never, ever see Avry Anstis not buzzing.

12:52Justin: Yeah.

12:53Andrew: Okay. He's buzzing every time he's out there. I love it.

12:56Justin: Yeah.

12:56Andrew: I'm a huge fan.

12:57Justin: Love watching this kid.

12:58Andrew: That was set up by. Of course, Anonowski had the shot, but Jared Woolley also touched a buck there, too. So there's his first point.

13:06Andrew: And then we're keeping it going with the new blood. Dylan Edwards scores his 20th from Pridham and Humphreys on the power play.

13:12Justin: Power play.

13:13Andrew: Yes. So that's to start the second period.

13:15Justin: And. And we've seen quite a bit of Edwards with Humphreys and Pridham and. Yeah, that's a good look.

13:20Andrew: Yeah. On the power play. That first line power play now is like, so lethal.

13:25Justin: Yeah.

13:26Andrew: You've got. Now you've got Sam O'Reilly taking a draw because that. That we didn't really talk too much about the acquisition of Sam O'Reilly But we will. In the context of these games, what they needed was size and grit, and they got that on the back end because they got both Ando and Woolly. And now that's an A crazy shutdown. First pairing. Terrifying to be going up against those guys. And you need face offs. You got the best face off guy in the league. Arguably. Arguably the best face off guy.

13:54Justin: He won some pretty good, important face off in this game.

13:57Andrew: Exactly.

13:57Justin: And also just as a reminder that obviously Mike McKenzie is listening to us for advice. Yes. Because when we had Babs on, that's what Babs said.

14:42Andrew: And then that was 8:54 into the second. Yeah.

14:47Andrew: About 40 seconds later. Almost said an Ottawa 67's an Oshawa Generals is entering the zone and there's a bit of a weird, like, bobbling the puck and he turns and looks down. In this moment, Ando has already committed to throwing an enormous body. Check.

15:07Justin: Huge open ice hit.

15:08Andrew: Huge open ice hit. If it lands clean. It's monstrous. It's monstrous.

15:13Justin: Game changing. Yeah. It.

15:14Andrew: Humongous. It's one of those, like, hits that you're like. You know what I'm saying? It's huge.

15:20Justin: Yeah.

15:20Andrew: Unfortunately, at that exact moment, and this is the problem, the person who is making the contact is responsible to not check the head.

15:33Justin: Correct. Right.

15:33Andrew: By letter of the law.

15:34Justin: Yeah.

15:35Andrew: So just because he turns and he loses the pocket. He looks down.

15:38Justin: Slows down a little bit.

15:39Andrew: Slows down a little bit. Yeah. And it puts him right in. Right on the tracks.

15:44Andrew: On the train tracks. And the train comes through full bore.

15:47Justin: Yeah.

15:48Andrew: And he makes contact with the head. Thankfully, the player is okay.

15:51Justin: He mostly took out Romano, but.

15:53Andrew: Yeah, I was going to say the most. The most unbelievable part of this was that nobody was hurt because as he goes through the first kid, he hits Luca Romano. After that, who's right behind there, I think, because the kid was slowly turning and looking away. The Oshawa Generals player, he gets hit and he like, almost like his body momentum helped him, I think, from being like ma majorly injured. He was shaken up, but he was okay. He got up and Romano looked like he got the worst of it because it was like full on Ando flying at you with his arms up. Like it could have been really bad.

16:32Andrew: It wasn't.

16:32Justin: It was.

16:32Andrew: It was fine. However, they reviewed it obviously for contact to the head.

16:38Justin: Yeah.

16:38Andrew: Which is a major penalty.

16:39Justin: Yeah.

16:40Andrew: It's a major penalty. And they throw him out for game of science conduct.

16:43Justin: Yeah. Yeah. And then. Yeah. So then the rangers are down five to three for a minute 20.

16:48Andrew: Yeah.

16:48Justin: They kill off the penalty.

16:49Andrew: Yeah.

16:50Justin: Which is then when Jared Woolley steps out of the box.

16:53Andrew: Yes.

16:53Justin: Carson Campbell throws a bomb to him on the offensive blue line beauty all by himself. No defender anywhere near him.

17:01Andrew: Yeah. And just walks in and was patient and makes a little move and deposits it.

17:07Justin: It was beautiful.

17:07Andrew: So that three to nothing.

17:09Justin: Yes.

17:10Andrew: Then right at the end of the second, it was that Oshawa, that last minute goal. I was.

17:18Justin: Yeah.

17:18Andrew: But I don't think that this is going to be a problem.

17:20Justin: Yeah.

17:20Andrew: And then the third period was super flat. Oh, so flat.

17:23Justin: This. This was a period of it. It was like. I hate saying this, but this was a very boring period of hockey. It was. And there were. I think it was. I think it was about 10 minutes into this period. There were less than five shots total.

17:36Andrew: Yeah.

17:37Justin: And it was a lot of stuff happening in the neutral zone. The Rangers getting the puck.

17:42Andrew: Yep.

17:43Justin: Crossing the blue line, Having the puck taken away. It being put back in the neutral zone. Things happening in the neutral zone. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat.

17:52Andrew: Yeah.

17:52Justin: It was a lot of time just spent trying to cross the line. Nobody could get into the zone.

17:56Andrew: Low event hockey.

17:57Justin: Yes.

17:58Andrew: But the first two periods were exciting. So I think it probably, if that third period, maybe it feels. I'm remembering it worse than it was because the first two periods had so much going on.

18:10Justin: Yeah. It was one of those things where they were only up 3 to 1. I know the Rangers were dominating this game.

18:15Andrew: Yeah.

18:16Justin: But it didn't. They didn't have enough score.

18:18Andrew: There's been like. That's been a thing with the Rangers is they don't necessarily like, step on the neck.

18:23Justin: No. You know what I mean? Yeah. We talked about this a couple weeks ago.

18:25Andrew: Yeah. I was never worried about this game. I never thought that this was in danger of being lost this game. But you and I kind of looked at each other and had the same. If they score a goal here and it's they being Oshawa and they're down three to two and then they pull the goalie or they draw a penalty or whatever, you could see this getting wacky and going overtime. You could just see this going. This being like you played with your food a little bit and here we are now. And now you gotta try and score again to win the game.

18:55Justin: And it almost happened because the goalie, they did pull their goalie, but he hadn't even made it off the ice yet. They hadn't got that extra player and they scored and it was three to two.

19:03Andrew: Yeah.

19:04Justin: And they had a minute and a half and the Rangers did inevitably score an empty netter. Hump got an empty netter. So it was four to two final. But there was about a minute solid of Oshawa pressure.

19:15Andrew: Yeah.

19:16Justin: Where it could have happened. It only takes one shot. Like absolutely could have happened.

19:20Andrew: Yeah. It was just one of those. We've seen this before. I don't know why they don't. We've also seen them thump teams. We've seen them thump teams when they like, you know what, we're going to do this. But we've seen this more often than that. Yeah, we've seen this where it's okay, now we got a couple of goals. All right, let's just, as the Soo in, in soccer, football, whatever you want to call it, let's just park the Buffs. Let's just. Let's just kill time. Let's just rag the puck, that kind of thing. And it was just kind of like, all right. Like it's only a two goal game.

19:53Justin: Yeah. It's a little close, so. A little too close. Even though you're dominating.

19:56Andrew: Yeah. Thankfully we didn't have to worry about it. But like they only had 17 shots on Kirsch.

20:01Justin: Yeah, I know. It was.

20:02Andrew: Yeah, it was. They were not. They're not good.

20:05Justin: Yeah.

20:05Andrew: And it's because of their windows closed. And this is their first year after the window closed.

20:08Justin: That's what we said last week. Yeah, we like. But.

20:10Andrew: Yeah, but yeah, that's.

20:12Justin: We can't give away free wins, you know.

20:13Andrew: No. So I'm glad that we got the two points, but it was a little kind of. I'd like to see them push harder.

20:18Justin: I would like to see now 5, 1, 1 win. I think that's. Yeah, that's how they played. Yeah. All right, next game. We were in Owen sound for a 74 win on the road. Yeah. This was a game where it was a kind of a. It was a weird one as well.

20:33Andrew: This was also a weird game. And I Andrew how much of this is because there's been so much chemistry shake up. Yeah. And there's new.

20:39Justin: Yeah.

20:40Andrew: There's new players. I think like that it's okay. Like maybe things are going to be a little bit wonky.

20:44Justin: Yeah.

20:45Andrew: Just in the short term and now they've had time to practice and get to know each other and get to know how. What each other likes to do out there on the ice and maybe things will start to change. We will add on that that Anonofsky was suspended. We didn't mention that.

Like, why did they get three shots on or three goals on 12 shots. Yeah. I'm like, shovel having a rough night. Defense having a rough night. And essentially your response to me was like, they're not shooting. But when they do shoot, it's like really good shots. Like, well, yeah, shot selection was really
